Shakespeare At Betley

For the past three years, the children at Betley primary school have been a part of an initiative with the Royal Shakespeare Company, The New Vic Theatre and other local schools. As part of this, the children learn about two different plays written by William Shakespeare each year. So far, they have looked at A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest and Much Ado About Nothing. The children will spend two weeks learning about each play. During this time, they spend time learning about the settings, characters, plot and language used. A wide variety of activities are included in this learning for instance, hot seating activities, role play, designing their own dramas, different genre are written and vocabulary activities. It is wonderful to see how involved the children get when we are learning about a new play and how much they enjoy them. At the end of the year, some of our older children are invited to perform at the New Vic Theatre in one of the plays that they have studied during the year.
