Sam Ray

Why you are a Governor

My name is Sam Ray and I am the proud Executive Headteacher of two wonderful schools.

Being the Headteacher enables me to be a Governor at the school.

Your occupation

I have been teaching for 31 years and been the Headteacher of St Luke’s since September

2010 and Betley CE Primary School since January 2015. Prior to this role I have worked in 5

different schools in my career in different areas of England.  Having had this wide ranging

experience of roles it has granted me the invaluable opportunity to see school life from a

number of different perspectives and understand how best to support strategic

development as a Head Teacher.

Our children deserve the best start in life; St Luke’s CE Primary School provides them with

the opportunity to grow and learn in a supportive and trusting environment. My dream for

the children of St Luke’s is that they leave us ready to be successful in the world, able to

achieve anything that they put their minds to - reaching for the stars always and live happy

lives built on the foundations of a solid primary education. The children, parents ,staff and

community make my job the most rewarding and enjoyable job ever.

A little about me!

I am married to Tim and I have one son called James who is 20 years old and is at University

studying Psychology. Tim and I also became foster carers last year.  If that wasn’t enough I

have also two cats and two dogs. Our pets keep us very busy when I'm not in school. I love

to go on walks, camp, read and watch films.
