Operation Encompass
Our school is part of Operation Encompass, a national scheme working in partnership with schools and local police forces. Operation Encompass ensures that schools are informed, before the start of the next school day, when a child or young person may have experienced domestic abuse.
Within our school, two members of our Safeguarding Team have been trained as Key Adults in the Operation Encompass procedures. This enables us to receive information confidentially and to use it sensitively to provide appropriate support for the children in our care.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises that children who experience domestic abuse are victims in their own right. In addition, on 24 May 2024, the Victims and Prisoners Act received Royal Assent, placing Operation Encompass on a statutory footing. This means there is now a legal duty on police forces to share Operation Encompass notifications with schools and educational settings.
We are committed to offering the best possible support to all our pupils. Through our involvement in Operation Encompass, we are better able to ensure that children receive the care, understanding and support they need at the earliest opportunity.
