Space Makers
At Betley CE Primary School and Nursery, the Space Makers programme, developed by the Diocese of Oxford, supports our vision of nurturing the whole child. Designed to be inclusive and accessible to pupils of all faiths and world views, the initiative provides children with opportunities to pause, reflect, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.
Through simple contemplative practices, children are encouraged to develop mindfulness, self-awareness, and inner peace. This helps to strengthen their emotional and spiritual wellbeing, equipping them with resilience and laying strong foundations for lifelong learning and personal growth. For those who wish, the programme also creates space to encounter God more deeply, enriching their spiritual journey.
At the heart of Space Makers are five contemplative practices drawn from the ancient wisdom of the Christian tradition. These enable children to make sense of the world around them and to flourish, particularly at a time when many young people face challenges such as climate anxiety, the pressures of social media, and increased screen time. By embedding these practices into daily school life, we seek to foster a culture of calm, reflection, and hope—ensuring that every child is supported to thrive.
